Get Your Boiler Serviced Regularly By The Professionals
Why have your boiler serviced?
Having your boiler serviced regularly is an absolute must for many reasons. The main reason is cost. Although the boiler service itself costs each year, it will provide a preventative service and will enable the boiler engineer an opportunity to find potential bigger faults before they happen.
Prevention is always better than cure when it comes to your boiler.
When you consider that the average annual boiler service costs approximately £100-£150, but a replacement boiler could be anything up to £2000 or more, it's clear to see why the service is so important. You probably have your car serviced regularly for safety and performance, so makes sense to apply the same logic to your boiler.
What is done on a boiler service?
Generally, the boiler engineer will check the boiler for any leaks, gas supply and thoroughly clean the components. Dust and debris will damage and deteriorate components over time if left unchecked. Same situation with leaks. The tiniest of water leaks within the boiler itself will corrode electronics or internal components and cause irrevocable damage. If spotted early enough, this can be cleaned and sorted before it becomes a problem.
How often should my boiler be serviced?
Your boiler should be serviced at least annually, and ideally before the winter months begin so that you are prepared for the higher consumption and use. During winter, most plumbers are busier with leaks and emergencies, so booking your boiler service could be delayed. Some plumbing companies also increase rates during busier periods because of demand, so be prepared to get your boiler service booked in from August to October ideally.
How long does it take for a boiler service?
Once we get onsite, the boiler service itself shouldn't take too long. This sometimes depends on where your boiler is, but most are readily accessible. An average boiler service, without complications, should take between 1-2 hours. After the inspection has taken place, we can advise if anything further is required, and the cost. In very rare cases, where we have found the boiler to be dangerous to use, we have had to shut it down, but the majority of the time, if small repairs are required, we can either do them in the same visit, or at a later date depending on parts etc.
